2009, The Year in Review - 01/04/10

Congratulations, Blackjacker - a winner is you! Early controversy (Goody), obvious picks (Swayze) and unexpected scores (Jackson) made the 2009 Dead Pool exciting from start to finish. MVP, of course, was Cancer. ("It's always fucking Cancer!") Even anal cancer showed up, taking advantage of the pool's roster increase to 15 from 2008's 10. For 2010, I have two recommendations - we have some kind of panel to vet the targets' "celebrity" status, and we put some cash on this thing.

And You're Welcome, Too, Sharon Tate - 09/24/09

Where the California penal system fails, Cancer picks up the slack. Susan Atkins, 61, RIP. Sucks to be her, but on a happier note Blackjacker has now dropped 6 of his 15 targets, and with a little luck (Steinbrenner... Billy Graham...) has a decent shot at ending the year batting over .500.

Ghost - 09/14/09

Nobody puts baby in a corner, but somebody's gotta put Patrick Swayze in a box. Nobody really wins with this death, as he was on all 15 rosters. In fact we all lose a little, as there will now be no definitive Roadhouse sequel. It's nice to finally see Dewar and Mxzylpt get on the board, though - I was beginning to think they didn't understand the rules.

You're Welcome, Mary Jo Kopechne - 08/25/09

Eight Arcadians woke this morning to find they'd scored a hit with Ted Kennedy, who was felled by brain cancer. Of course it was cancer - it's ALWAYS fucking cancer! The hit launched jclast into the lead, 6 points ahead of Blackjacker, who took the raw bodycount lead with 4.

Goodnight, Sweet Prince - 08/18/09

The Prince of Darkness (no, not Ozzy - the literate one) shut it down this morning, to the benefit of TheFid2 and Blackjacker. Cancer rocks. Other People's Cancer, I mean. Rumor has it Cancer also killed 360arcadians.net.

Walter Cronkite. A low-scoring pick, but considering all of the action we've had this year, 8 points could prove to be the difference.

Seriously... Holy Shit! At Least This One Wasn't Cancer - 06/25/09

Michael Jackson?! Tremendous pick by 4 of our players - congrats! For the first time this season a target is dropped by something other than The Big C. A heart attack, it appears. Makes sense in a way, when you consider how fucked MJ's life had become and how much stress he was under, but seriously - nice fucking pick, guys. This is getting good!

Holy Shit, Slow Down! - 06/25/09

Jesus Christ, Cancer, chew in between bites! Cronkite must be shitting himself right about now. This puts that cancer-resistant mutant Swayze's ongoing going-on in a different light. Unless he has "cancer" like Magic Johnson has "HIV".

On Deck? (Update) - 06/23/09

Bye, Ed. Walter Cronkite and Farrah Fawcett look to be leaving pretty soon as well, maybe you guys can share a cab. Meanwhile, Steve Jobs' fortune appears to have bought him some time, along with his new liver.

I wouldn't give Ed McMahon a long-term loan, if you get my meaning. And staying out of the spotlight can’t mean good things for Steve Jobs, who looks to be the great equalizer, given that he doesn’t appear on the three current leaders' rosters.

Not Even Lapel Pins Could Help - 05/09/09

While still locked in an epic duel against Patrick Swayze, pancreatic cancer waged a short but brutally effective campaign against former NBA coach Chuck Daly, with Daly’s defense proving no match for pancreatic cancer’s offense in their best-of-one playoff series. Congrats to everyone who saw this one coming.

Fast Start

Cancer is now a Jade Goody survivor, winning his brief battle with the “celebrity” in the pool’s first 24 hours. Cancer said "I feel great. I hope my experience can help other diseases in their fight against borderline celebrities.”
